To help provide immediate support to people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Medica Foundation recently donated $100,000 to Greater Twin Cities United Way’s Greater Twin Cities COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund. This generous gift is part of $1 million in donations Medica is giving to 18 Minnesota nonprofit organizations that play important roles in addressing health needs of the most vulnerable people in communities statewide, especially during the coronavirus pandemic.
When the threat of COVID-19 hit, United Way immediately connected with its 95 nonprofit partners to identify the most pressing community needs, which include food, shelter, childcare, sanitary and hygiene supplies, and financial assistance. In response, United Way established the Greater Twin Cities COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund. One hundred percent of all donations to the fund go directly into the community. To date, $515,000 from the fund have been distributed in immediate grants to nonprofit partners.
Medica, the Medica Foundation and their employees have been longstanding partners and supporters of United Way. Medica’s donations to United Way and other nonprofit organizations responding to the COVID-19 crisis will provide urgent support in key focus areas, including child and family support, clinics and shelters, food security, mental health / telehealth services, and general disaster relief.
“We understand that community needs have only been amplified by the coronavirus, and we are grateful we are in a position to help United Way,” said JoAnn Birkholz, Executive Director of the Medica Foundation. “They are a valued community partner.”
Thank you, Medica, for your generous donation and continued support, especially during this significant time of need.
