Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs teamed up with Greater Twin Cities United Way to impact 750 local families this Thanksgiving.

Diggs donated and distributed the turkeys to United Way nonprofit partner Neighborhood House in St. Paul. This is the third year the Vikings player has done the drive- he says it’s his way to make sure families in need have a turkey on the table as part of their holiday meal.”

It’s an awesome day to see the families, talk to them, and engage as much as I can,” said Stefon Diggs. “Thanksgiving was a huge holiday in my household- it’s a good time of year to have a lot of love around and I’m happy to be able to give back.”

United Way partners with Neighborhood House year-round and funds three areas of their work: Housing stability, early learning, and food security.

“Feeding families is a constant issue every day- food insecurity is rising rapidly. There are a lot of people who simply can’t afford food for holiday celebrations so receiving a turkey is one less worry in their pile of worries,” said Nancy Brady, President of Neighborhood House. “To have a star from the Vikings and a wonderful man provide these turkeys to our community is heartwarming.”

“We know the average turkey costs about $21- for a family struggling to meet day-to-day needs, $21 means a lot,” said Acooa Ellis, Greater Twin Cities United Way Senior Vice President of Community Impact. “This turkey for Thanksgiving dinner may be a really well-timed blessing.”

Members of the Neighborhood House community were ecstatic to meet Diggs and take home a turkey. “Players like Stefon set a good example for our kids,” said Dalia, a mother of five. “And, my family is very thankful for the turkey and the ability to spend time together this week.”

“If you’re struggling with bills or all you have is food shelf-type items, a turkey helps make Thanksgiving a whole experience,” said Scott, participant. “I feel very fortunate.”

Greater Twin Cities United Way works to provide access to healthy, affordable food year-round- and because of Diggs’ generous donation, 750 families will enjoy Thanksgiving with a little less stress.
